experiences, please contact us.
This portfolio represents a cross section of our business and project
history, demonstrating the capabilities of our professional staff.
Opportunity:
A
Midwestern utility developing a fuel beneficiation system required project
development, management, and engineering support.
Solution: JDI was selected with a utility partner to
provide project development, construction management, and project
engineering services in support of a major fuel system beneficiation
project. Deliverables included development of comprehensive project role
definitions, project design criteria, and field support in several team
and individual roles.
Opportunity:
A
regional engineering firm expanded their portfolio to include control
system development and engineering services.
Solution: JDI provided control system development and
engineering services to internal and external engineering clients. Work on
several major control system platforms was planned, initiated, and
executed in support of larger project goals.
Opportunity:
An
upper Midwestern recycling company requested support to determine business
growth and expansion opportunities in the biomass industry.
Solution: JDI worked with board of directors and
management personnel of the recycling company to evaluate current
operations and potential expansion opportunities. A series of options were
developed and researched to include market analysis, pro-forma
development, pre-project engineering and estimating, and business
planning. An expansion option was developed and activities initiated with
a business partner to initiate new business operations, leading to a new
recycling operation for waste biomass in the target market area.
Opportunity:
A
worldwide process control system supplier requested development of new
strategies for advanced technology in the utility sector.
Solution: JDI was selected to develop new
implementation strategies for advanced control system technologies.
Multi-device and network technologies were integrated into new
construction approaches for utility installations in coal, gas, and
environmental control facilities. Cost estimates were developed for
several implementations including a 600 MW supercritical coal facility, a
standalone wet FGD implementation, and a series of combined cycle
configurations. Hard savings ranging from 2 to 4% of total project cost
were identified in multiple industry applications, later resulting in
several U.S. installations. See JDI News for additional information. June
2, 2007 Update: Development and estimating tools were recently updated to
include currency independence, productivity sensitivity, and have been
extended into bio-diesel refining applications.
Opportunity:
A utility
system and plant owner/developer requested an applicability evaluation of
bussed concepts and new construction methods for a proposed U.S. power
plant installation.
Solution: JDI developed a series of new control
systems construction options, including detailed analysis of advantages
and considerations, for presentation and discussion. The overall approach
concept was determined viable and further work was undertaken to fully
implement selected concepts.
Opportunity:
A
mid-western utility requested environmental compliance project development
and strategic planning.
Solution: JDI personnel developed a strategic
environmental plan for a Generation company portfolio. The plan was
inclusive of current and proposed legislation, for air, water, and waste
management, for thermal, co-generation, and other generation asset
operations for a 15-20 year planning horizon. The final analysis included
complete financial, risk, and technical components.
Opportunity:
A
consortium required project development for a large scale biomass
co-generation facility serving a large paper mill operation.
Solution: JDI personnel and partners evaluated a
state-of-the-art heat and power production facility based on circulating
fluidized bed technology. Active participation included financial,
operations, multi-disciplined technical, and other areas of development
process.
Opportunity:
A
Midwestern utility acquired and expanded a co-generation operation to
increase operational reliability.
Solution: JDI personnel provided due diligence,
operations integration, and construction management services for a
co-generation plant acquisition. The expansion included retirement of two
1950's gas boilers and replacement with near equally sized but
environmentally compliant gas fired package boilers. The overall project
schedule was ten months from team kickoff to startup, which included
acquisition closing and operations integration and re-staffing support.
Opportunity:
A
Generation group of a major Midwestern utility implemented a work
management and reporting system.
Solution: JDI personnel provided project management
services for implementation of a Generation wide work management and
reporting system. A Generation wide maintenance and operations work flow
analysis was complete, after which an Oracle based work management system
implementation took place, linking utility accounting and management
systems where required. Implementation was completed with adherence to
cultural work paradigms over multiple logical and physical facilities in
several locations.
Opportunity:
A
Midwestern utility upgraded a 1000 MW plant with 14 major control systems
to a modern, integrated, distributed control and information system.
Solution: JDI personnel provided project management
services to justify replacement, evaluate options, and implement a plant
wide control system with 12,000 hard I/O points. The final implementation
solution included a five year phased implementation, long term business
unit integration planning, external networking infrastructure, data
communications systems upgrades and Generation-wide data acquisition
systems implementation.
Opportunity:
A
large scale taconite mining operation installed an integrated truck and
train dispatching system to optimize material handling operations.
Solution: JDI personnel provided automation project
management support for a leading North American mine management agent.
Project support was provided for multiple mining automation projects at
U.S. and Canadian locations in support of production optimization, data
management and quality initiatives. The design, installation, and
commissioning of the first fully automated truck and train dispatch system
in North America was
completed. |
